In this interactive one-hour webinar, educators will experience a middle school phenomenon-based lesson as learners and unpack a powerful 5-step instructional routine for Developing and Using Models. Grounded in OpenSciEd and adapted from Ambitious Science Teaching, the session focuses on how models support student sensemaking—not just as final products, but as evolving tools for thinking. Participants will explore how this routine helps students make sense of phenomena, refine ideas over time, and engage in equitable scientific discourse. Teachers will leave with concrete strategies for supporting the Science and Engineering Practice of Developing and Using Models in their own classrooms.
