Biosphere 2

Join ASTA’s Science Teaching Symposium for three incredible days of professional learning at Biosphere 2.

Start each day with the recognition that teachers are human beings first and foremost. Explore your own well-being and resilience while you learn strategies you can immediately put into practice to support yourself in and out of the classroom. Then, as humans doing the work of professional educators, you will learn from expert scientists from around Arizona and the country. In the evenings, you will continue your learning and networking with scientists and fellow participants.

Throughout this in-person symposium, you will learn about a variety of science fields using the crosscutting concept lens of scale, proportion, and quantity. Each participant will receive a box of books and supplies at the symposium (worth ~$200). Hands-on, minds-on experiences using these materials, grade-band digestion time to discuss the content and activities, and time to ask questions of the impressive lineup of everyday STEM superheroes serving as speakers will make this professional development experience out of this world!

The University of Arizona Biosphere 2 welcomes all visitors and strives to make its tours, exhibits and programs accessible to everyone. While much of the Biosphere 2 campus is wheelchair accessible, certain areas of the property are not accessible due the steep terrain and the presence of stairs.  There will be walking in heat of day to breakout rooms that are across the Biosphere 2 Campus.

Meals will be provided. ASTA will have vegetarian and gluten-free choices available. However, if you have food allergies or other special dietary needs, we welcome you to bring your own food. Kitchenettes are available in the casitas.
