As early as 1931 science educators in Arizona convened as an “allied organization” during AZ Education Association meetings and conferences to ensure that science teachers were supported and represented. These meetings continued for
several decades until 1954 when during an annual AEA conference, science educators formally organized into the Arizona Science Teachers Association (ASTA). Since inception, the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) provided
strong support for the development of an Arizona chapter and the working relationship between the two organizations continues today. As early as March 1955, publications have been sent “to inform science teachers throughout the state
of activities and progress being made by the Association”. In addition, ASTA has continued to provide resources, support, professional development and networking opportunities for science educators. Although we have been doing
this for some time, ASTA continues to adapt and grow, addressing changing standards, methods and educational environment represented in today’s 21st century classrooms. ASTA is grateful to all of our leaders who have shaped and guided
