Kayenta Unified School District
School/Position: Kayenta Middle School/7th Grade Science teacher
Personal information that you’d like people to know:
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS of Microbiology, AS in Chemistry.
This will be my 18th year teaching with Kayenta Unified School District.
One of your favorite science activities:
I like extracting DNA from bananas, students like the mess. I also will test the alkalinity of local water from the communities that are served by KUSD. Students are able to see the difference in their local water source as compared to the town of Kayenta’s water source.
Why you serve ASTA:
I have attended the NSTA since 2004 conventions when they occur in Phoenix AZ. I had started attending and wanted the K-8 teachers in my school district to become more involved in learning about the new science standards back when NGSS was being talked about. I was thinking might as well get a head start and look into the new standards and back in 2018 Arizona updated the science standards. I have seen new faces become more familiar over time making efforts to teach the new standards from my school district.
